Rainbow Warriors falls short against Colorado state
University of Hawai’i Rainbow Warrior (UH) football team lost 51-21 against Colorado State Rams (Colorado) at Aloha stadium on Saturday Sept. 30th.
This is UH’s third straight loss and they are now 2-3 on the season and 0-2 in the Mountain West Conference. The team got off to a slow start and didn’t score until the end of the second quarter. By then, Colorado had already scored 24 points. At halftime the Colorado led 31-7.
Quarterback Nick Stevens led the Colorado offense, who totalled 610 yards, with 351 passing yards and scored four touchdowns.
After the game, UH coach, Nick Rolovich, were disappointed the lack of defensive stops by his team as he said, “They really moved the ball at will on us and how much that is them and how much of that is Colorado state, I gotta see the film to make a clear decision on that but we definitely gotta tackle better.”
After halftime, Warriors improved on offense and managed to move the ball on the Colorado defense. Tight end Kade Greeley and wide receiver John Ursua both caught a touchdown pass each from quarterback Dru Brown. Brown had his fourth game in his college career with over 300-yards passing. He wasn’t the only one on the UH team that had a solid game. Linebacker Jahlani Tavai tied his career-high in tackles with 14 tackles on the game.
Despite the amount of tackles, the redshirt junior disappointed in the defense. At the press conference after the game he said. “There’s no excuse on making easy mistakes. Great teams will capitalize on those little mistakes, and it showed today.”
The next game for UH is on the road against Nevada.
